Tucked away on beautiful Martha’s Vineyard, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary is a peaceful escape full of natural wonder. With every visit, there’s something new to explore — from quiet trails and wildlife sightings to hands-on activities that make the outdoors come alive.
If you’re looking for a place to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy nature at its best, here are some of our absolute favorite things to do at Felix Neck.
1. Explore the Trails
The sanctuary offers a variety of trails that wind through woodlands, salt marshes, open meadows, and along the shore of Sengekontacket Pond. Each trail feels like its own little adventure. One moment you’re spotting crabs by the water, the next you’re walking under a canopy of trees with birds calling from above. It’s peaceful, scenic, and never the same twice.
2. Spot Some Amazing Birds
Felix Neck is a hotspot for birdwatching, and it doesn’t take long to see why. From ospreys gliding overhead to wild turkeys roaming the fields, the variety of birds here is incredible. Even without binoculars, it’s easy to catch glimpses of shorebirds, hawks, and songbirds — especially near the water or early in the morning.
3. Paddle Through Calm Waters
Taking a kayak or paddleboard out on Sengekontacket Pond is hands down one of the most relaxing ways to experience the sanctuary. The water is calm, the views are wide open, and there’s a good chance you’ll see fish jumping or birds skimming the surface. Guided paddles are also offered if you want to learn more as you go.
4. Join a Seasonal Program
There’s always something happening at Felix Neck — from full-moon owl prowls to nature workshops and kid-friendly discovery days. These programs are fun, educational, and a great way to experience the sanctuary in a different light, especially if you enjoy hands-on learning and a little adventure.
5. Bring the Kids for Nature Play
The sanctuary is built for exploration, and that includes the youngest visitors. Kids can dig in the dirt, explore the butterfly gardens, search for insects, or just let their imagination lead the way in the nature play areas. It’s outdoor fun that feels like summer camp, without the schedule.
