Getting Around

Getting Around Martha’s Vineyard

Getting around Martha’s Vineyard is easier than ever before. You can take your choice of bicycles, mopeds, buses, trolleys, cars, or taxis.

If you are staying in the three main towns, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and Vineyard Haven, you do not need a car to get around. We have a wonderful on-island bus system that can take you from town to town.

The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) bus operates on the island year-round and there is a bus stop adjacent to the hotel. The VTA is frequent, reliable, and affordable and can take you both to the towns and more isolated rural attractions. The fleet of buses runs on natural gas and starts very early in the morning and goes until late at night to accommodate the public’s needs.

Bicycle and moped rentals are available steps from The Surfside Hotel. If you are bringing your bicycle, we bicycle racks for your convenience.

Taxi service is available to all points on the island and the taxis operate from the ferry dock and the corner of Circuit Avenue just steps from the hotel.

Car rentals are available on the island. Most major car rental companies operate at the airport in addition to local car rental companies. We are happy to help coordinate rentals for our guests. We do recommend booking car rentals in advance as vehicles can become limited in the peak summer season.
